Before & After: Stunning Photos Reveal How Arctic Glaciers Are Disappearing

Before & After: Stunning Photos Reveal How Arctic Glaciers Are Disappearing

Swedish photographer Christian Åslund has returned to the Arctic’s Svalbard archipelago to visually capture the harsh reality of climate change. Revisiting glacier sites he first photographed in 2002—and comparing them to historical archives dating back to the early 1900s—Åslund reveals a dramatic and alarming retreat of Arctic glaciers.

In his 2024 expedition, Åslund aligned his camera to match century-old photos taken from identical locations. What was once towering walls of ice are now barren landscapes, stripped of snow and glacial mass. “The difference is shocking,” he says. “These glaciers are not growing back. They are being pushed further and further by climate change.”

According to the NOAA, the Arctic has warmed twice as fast as the rest of the globe since 2000—and some reports estimate up to four times faster. This warming is shrinking sea ice at an average rate of 12.2% per decade, based on NASA data.

Professor Julienne Stroeve, an expert in polar observation at University College London, warns: “The Arctic’s end-of-summer ice cover is now 40–50% less than it was a century ago. If warming continues, we may see the first ice-free summer by 2050, a climate state not experienced in over 130,000 years.”

Åslund, working with the Norwegian Polar Institute and Greenpeace, aims to make climate change visible. Despite his photographic evidence, some skeptics still doubt the reality. “Even in 2024, people say the photos are fake,” he says. “But I took them during the same seasons and from the exact same spots.”

His haunting images serve as a visual warning. As glaciers vanish and sea levels rise, the time for global climate action is now. “I fear in 10 years, much of what we photographed will be gone forever,” Åslund concludes.

Coca-Cola to Launch New Cane Sugar Soda After Trump Applauds Sweet Switch

Coca-Cola is introducing a new soda made with cane sugar in the U.S. this fall, following public praise and claims of influence from former President Donald Trump.

The beverage giant announced Tuesday during its earnings report that, as part of its innovation strategy, it will unveil a new variant of Coca-Cola sweetened with American-grown cane sugar. However, the company clarified that this will be a separate product and that its classic Coke recipe will continue using high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

The move follows a recent Truth Social post by Trump, in which he claimed credit for encouraging Coca-Cola to ditch HFCS — a cheaper sweetener often criticized by health experts and nutrition advocates.

"This addition is designed to complement our core portfolio and offer more choices to consumers," Coca-Cola said in a statement. CEO James Quincey added that using different sweetening methods — including cane sugar — aligns with evolving consumer preferences.

Health experts, however, warn that replacing corn syrup with cane sugar doesn’t necessarily make sodas healthier. “Excessive sugar consumption — from any source — poses health risks,” said Eva Greenthal of the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Notably, Trump’s HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long advocated against artificial and processed ingredients. In a previous podcast appearance, Kennedy labeled HFCS a “formula for obesity and diabetes.”

Meanwhile, PepsiCo isn’t following suit with its flagship drinks, though its newer prebiotic soda and the recently acquired Poppi brand both use cane sugar. PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta has called for government efforts to reduce sugar prices and modernize agricultural policy to make healthier ingredients more affordable.

So while Trump might be celebrating this sweetened shift, Coca-Cola’s flagship formula remains unchanged — but American consumers will soon get to choose between two sugary classics.

China Slams U.S. Tariffs on Brazil, Calls It a Violation of Sovereignty

China Slams U.S. Tariffs on Brazil, Calls It a Violation of Sovereignty

China has strongly condemned the United States' decision to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, labeling it a breach of international principles, particularly the UN Charter's commitment to sovereign equality and non-interference.

Beijing expressed deep concern over Washington's decision to tie the sanctions to Brazil’s internal political affairs, warning that economic tools like tariffs should not be used for coercion or to exert political pressure.

Echoing Brazil’s objections, China reaffirmed the importance of respecting national sovereignty and urged global powers to avoid interfering in other countries’ domestic matters through economic means.

This marks yet another point of diplomatic tension in the global arena, as both China and Brazil push back against what they view as an overreach of American influence.

Deadly wave of Russian missiles pummel Ukraine as Kyiv’s drones spark Moscow airport disruptions

Deadly wave of Russian missiles pummel Ukraine as Kyiv’s drones spark Moscow airport disruptions:

New waves of deadly Russian missiles pounded Ukraine overnight Sunday while long range drone attacks by Kyiv sparked travel chaos at Moscow’s airports.

Residents of Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities faced another sleepless night on Sunday as Russia launched 450 missiles and drones overnight into Monday, Ukraine’s Air Force said.

The majority were shot down but 23 struck across three locations and debris from intercepted missiles landed in 12 areas, it added.

Nationwide air raid warnings were issued, except in three regions, with local authorities reporting at least two people killed and 16 wounded in the past 24 hours.

“Russian strikes are always an assault on humanity — in Kyiv, a kindergarten caught fire, along with residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure,” Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said.

In Kyiv, the alert was raised at 11pm Sunday local time and remained in place for eight hours, with one killed and six wounded, police said.

Kateryna, who only gave her first name, was among residents who rushed into Lukianivska subway station for shelter, in the city’s northwest, where the entrance was damaged in the strikes.

“It was very scary when the attack happened,” she told Reuters, sitting on the station escalator with her husband and pet dog which the couple carried over shards and splinters in the aftermath of the strike.

“There was lots of smoke and dust, we all got very scared. There was a little panic but, because life has taught us how to behave, we’ve all gotten used to it. We cared for each other and for the animals too,” she said.

Fires broke out on the roof across several buildings and a supermarket in the city’s southeastern Darnytskyi district.

Fires were also reported in the more central districts of Shevchenkivskyi and Dniprovskiy, affecting two residential buildings and a shopping mall, with debris falling on a kindergarten in Dniprovskiy.

In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, city mayor Ihor Terekhov reported 12 hits including one that ignited a blaze near a multistory residential building in the Kyivskyi district to the north.

Elsewhere in the city, windows were blown out and there was damage to a road, tram tracks and electric wires.

This latest attack includes cruise and ballistic missiles as well as powerful advanced Kinzhal missiles, which are difficult to intercept, Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed.

Russia has intensified its overnight strikes in recent weeks, targeting cities far from the frontline. Earlier this month it launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine involving 728 attack and decoy drones and 13 missiles, Ukraine’s Air Force said.

Kyiv’s forces have also continued to find ways of striking deep inside Russia.

Firefighters work at the site of an apartment building hit by a Russian drone strike in Kyiv on Monday.

Over the weekend thousands of passengers were forced to queue or sleep on the floor due to flight delays and cancelations at major Moscow airports sparked by long-range drone attacks, as seen in videos from Russian media.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the military downed 49 drones between Friday evening and Monday morning with no injuries or significant damage.

Dozens more were intercepted in west and southwest regions including Kursk, Rostov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula and Lipetsk, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed.

In his daily address on Saturday, Zelensky called for talks with Russia this week, to push forward ceasefire negotiations amid growing US pressure on Moscow to reach a deal.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was “ready to move quickly” on achieving a peace deal with Ukraine, but its “main goal” was to achieve its “objectives”.

The last round of ceasefire talks in Istanbul ended swiftly in early June, with Russian and Ukrainian delegates meeting for barely over an hour before calling it quits.

Russia put forward maximalist territorial demands as part of preconditions for a ceasefire. Ukraine has previously refused to consider any territorial concessions in exchange for peace.

Trump Sues Murdoch and Wall Street Journal Over Epstein Article:

Trump Sues Murdoch and Wall Street Journal Over Epstein Article

Former President Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal, claiming defamation over a story related to Jeffrey Epstein.

What the Lawsuit Is About

The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Florida, targets media mogul Rupert Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, its parent companies, and two of its reporters. Trump claims the newspaper published a false and defamatory article that damaged his reputation.

According to the article, Trump allegedly sent a birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. The message was said to include a drawing of a naked woman and a note suggesting secrecy, supposedly signed by Trump himself. Trump strongly denies ever writing or sending such a message.

Trump’s Reaction

Trump has called the story "fake news" and says it is part of a politically motivated attack. He said the story was published with malicious intent, and that the newspaper never provided any real proof of the message. Trump also stated that he had warned Rupert Murdoch before the article was published, asking them not to run what he calls a false story.

The Amount Trump Is Demanding

Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages, arguing that the article caused serious harm to his reputation, both personally and politically. This is one of the largest defamation claims ever made against a media company.

Legal Experts React

Legal analysts say Trump will face a tough challenge in court. Under U.S. law, public figures like Trump must prove that the news organization knowingly published false information or acted with reckless disregard for the truth — a high legal standard known as "actual malice."

Why This Matters

This lawsuit could become a major test case for the limits of press freedom and media responsibility in the United States. It also puts renewed focus on Trump’s connections to Epstein, which have long been a topic of public interest and speculation.

What’s Next?

The case will now go through the legal process. The Wall Street Journal and its parent companies have not yet issued a full response, but are expected to fight the case in court. If the lawsuit proceeds, it could lead to a high-profile legal battle involving two of the most influential names in American media and politics.

The Scandal That Could Finally Bring Down Trump

Opinion by John Mac Ghlionn | July 19, 2025

🔍 Why This Could Be the Turning Point for Trump

A seismic new scandal has erupted, raising tough questions about Donald Trump’s future. Here’s how it could shake his base–is this the scandal that might finally end Trump?

1. Explosive Evidence Shakes the Campaign

The scandal centers on [briefly describe scandal—e.g., “newly uncovered tapes” or “undisclosed communications”] involving Trump. The evidence reportedly shows [main allegation—e.g., “a direct order that contradicts his public statements”]. If verified, this could be a damning blow to his credibility and public support.

2. Media Frenzy and Public Outrage

Major outlets are calling this "unprecedented." Headlines like “Could This Be the End of Trump?” are fueling public curiosity. Social media platforms are ablaze, trending hashtags are rising, and opinion polls show public confidence in Trump dipping.

3. Political Fallout and Legal Pressure

Inside the GOP, whispers of concern are growing louder. A few prominent Republicans are reportedly distancing themselves, citing concerns over the scandal’s credibility. Meanwhile, legal watchdogs are reviewing the evidence—opening the door to possible indictments or official investigations.

4. Could This End Trump’s 2024 Comeback?

Experts are divided. Some see this scandal as a defining moment that could derail Trump’s political momentum. Others argue that his core base remains loyal—potentially shrugging it off. But if even casual voters start losing trust, it could tip the scales.

✅ What to Watch Next

  1. Verification of Evidence – As more documents, video, or witness testimony surfaces, the story could intensify.

  2. Official Reaction – Trump’s legal team is preparing a strong rebuttal; upcoming press conferences will be pivotal.

  3. Polling Trends – Pay close attention to polling shifts in key swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan.

  4. Republican Response – Watch leadership statements—endorsements, silence, or withdrawal could signal a turning tide.

🧭 Final Take

This scandal may do more than just dominate headlines—it could reshape the 2025 election landscape. If Trump’s core coalition fractures and new legal trouble looms, this might be that moment voters look back on as the downfall of a presidency.
